What the Anime Figure effect actually does.

Two things happen at once. The subject is rebuilt in a stylised figurine idiom — smoothed skin, enlarged eyes, moulded hair, the glossy plastic sheen of an injection-moulded collectible — and a circular display base appears underneath their feet. The background is not replaced. The street, the room or the sky your photo was taken in stays roughly where it was, slightly defocused, which is the trick that sells the illusion of scale.

Notice what it does not do: there is no box. The boxed, mint-condition packaging look is a separate effect called Mint in Box, and a third called 3D Figurine Factory shows the figure being manufactured. If the packaging is the part you want, this is not the effect to pick.

It runs on the Kling engine rather than Vidu, which is the reason it costs 5 credits against the 2 credits of the Ghibli-family effects, and the reason it can be extended to 10 seconds when 5 is not enough camera movement.

Failure modes

The three ways this particular effect disappoints people, and what causes each one.

Group shots are the clearest failure. The effect builds one figure on one base; two people produce either a merged sculpt or one figure and one abandoned human.

Tight head-and-shoulders portraits have no body to sculpt. The effect will build something, but it will be a bust rather than the figure people are sharing.

Very plain outfits — a plain white tee against a plain wall — come back looking like an unfinished prototype. The style has nothing to grip.
